第6课时  Study skills 
一、教学目标
1、学习词汇、词组、句型。
2、了解名词构成形容词的后缀-ful和-less。
3、了解后缀法,并能拓展其他类似的后缀用法。
二、教学重点
了解名词构成形容词的后缀-ful和-less。
三、教学难点
学会在语境中使用合适的形容词,用正确的后缀表明肯定或否定的意思。
四、教学过程
(一)Lead-in
1. Revise reading, say: Linda went to the World Park together with the Class 1, Grade 8 students. What did they see in the World Park? What did they do there?
2. Ask the students to talk about the World Park, say: What do you think of the World Park? Is it wonderful? Can you say something about it?
(二)Presentation
呈现图片和句子
1.Simon got 100 points in the exams. So he is very       . 
But Jane only got 80 points. She is very       .(care)
板书careful---careless
2.Jack is a good boy. He often helps others. He is       . 
But his brother, David, dislikes staying with others. He is very       .(help)
板书helpful---helpless
3 .Look at the picture. Is the knife useful? Another picture: What about that one?

2.Ask students : Can you find some rules about them? (Let students watch the 6 words. ) 
At last, the teacher and the students conclude together: we can add –ful or –less to some nouns to form adjectives. The suffix –ful means “full of”. The suffix –less means “without”
板书:n.+ful=adj.    n.+less=adj.
(三)Practice
1.Ask students to think freely: 
Can you remember any other words like them? 
n.  n.+ful=adj.    n.+less=adj.
colour  colourful   colourless
harm   harmful    harmless
thank   thankful   thankless
……
2. Read these words and finish A on P39.
3. Let students read the answers.
Ask students: 
T: Do all the words above have suffixes –ful and –less? You can use your dictionaries.
S: ……
T: Yes, “sleep” and “end” don’t have the suffix –ful. And another word “wonder” can be changed into “wonderful” but not “wonderless”.
4. Read the words and master their meanings. (use dictionaries) Then make sentences with these words. For example: They are telling tasteless jokes in the tasteful room. (You can also use them in 2 sentences.)
5. Finish the exercises B on P39. Check the answers. Let students underline some important phrases.
(四)Presentation
Ask students to introduce some other ways to form the positive and negative adjectives .e.g. Prefixes : ‘-in’, -‘ir’, ‘-in’, ‘-un’, ‘-dis’ .Suffixes: ‘-ed’, ‘-ing’, ‘-ly’,‘-y’ and so on.
(五)Activities
Have a competition to find out who can recite these words with suffixes more.
(六)Conclusion and check out 
Ask students to conclude the lesson and then finish the exercises.
